Olfactory Rod Cells: A Rare Cell Type in the Larval Zebrafish Olfactory Epithelium With a Large Actin-Rich Apical Projection

چکیده
We report the presence of a rare cell type, olfactory rod cell, in developing zebrafish epithelium. These cells each bear single actin-rich rod-like apical projection extending 5–10 ?m from epithelial surface. Live imaging with ubiquitous Lifeact-RFP label indicates that rods can oscillate. Olfactory arise within few hours pit opening, increase numbers and size during larval stages, develop absence cilia. differ morphology known classes sensory neuron, but express reporters driven by neuronal promoters. A sub-population expresses Lifeact-mRFPruby transgene sox10 promoter. Mosaic expression this reveals have rounded bodies located apically epithelium no detectable axon. offer speculation on possible function these Discussion.

Cell-type heterogeneity in the early zebrafish olfactory epithelium is generated from progenitors within preplacodal ectoderm
The zebrafish olfactory epithelium comprises a variety of neuronal populations, which are thought to have distinct embryonic origins. For instance, while ciliated sensory neurons arise from preplacodal ectoderm (PPE), previous lineage tracing studies suggest that both Gonadotropin releasing hormone 3 (Gnrh3) and microvillous sensory neurons derive from cranial neural crest (CNC). We find that t...
متن کاملThe Guidance of Olfactory Sensory Axons to Identifiable Protoglomeruli in the Larval Zebrafish Olfactory Bulb
During development, sensory neurons in the olfactory epithelium extend axons into the olfactory bulb. The earliest axons to enter the bulb terminate onto distinct neuropilar condensations called protoglomeruli. Protoglomeruli are thought to segregate into individual glomeruli later in development. The three day old larval zebrafish olfactory bulb contains 12 stereotyped, identifiable protoglome...
متن کاملThe projection of the olfactory epithelium on the olfactory bulb in the rabbit.
In a previous study (Le Gros Clark and Warwick, 1946) the degeneration of olfactory receptors in the rabbit following complete or partial ablation of the olfactory bulb was examined by reference to sections of the mucosa covering the septal cartilage, stained by Bodian's protargol method. Evidence was advanced to show that this is a true secondary degeneration following interruption of the prim...
متن کاملHISTIOCYTE-RICH B-CELL LYMPHOMA: A CASE REPORT OF A RARE VARIANT OF DIFFUSE LARGE B-CELL LYMPHOMA
The authors describe a case of histiocyte-rich B-cell lymphoma (HR-BCL), a variant of diffuse large B-cell lymphoma, in a 51-year-old man. The patient presented with large axillary lymphadenopathy. Histopathologic and immunohistochemical examination of lymph node biopsy revealed diffuse effacement of the lymph node architecture by reactive histiocytes and neoplastic CD20 positive B cells. ...
